Bill Clinton 'hopes to see a woman president' but shies away from announcing if Hillary will run in 2016

Former President Bill Clinton has said that he wants a woman to take control of the White House before he dies but he remained coy about whether he was pushing for his wife to fill that slot.

'I hope we have a woman president in my lifetime, and I think it would be a good thing for the world as well as for America,' he said on Monday during a financial conference in China.

Echoing his responses from a number of prior interviews, the former President said how his wife would be a wonderful candidate should she decide to follow in his footsteps.

'But I do not know if she's going to run, and there is no such thing as a sure thing in politics,' he said of the Secretary of State's future plans.
One attendee brought the issue up again by asking Mr Clinton if he hoped to become a 'first husband'.

'You know, if I knew the answer to that, I couldn't say. But I can give you an honest answer: I have no idea,' he said.

The Malay Mail Online reported that he went on to call his wife 'the ablest public servant I have ever worked with'.

The speculation surrounding Hillary Clinton's political future has been swirling ever since she left the State Department in January.

Though she has not made any explicit statements about a possible 2016 run, she has ramped up her public appearances, even campaigning for Democratic candidates before this month's election.

Even if his wife doesn't make the landmark move into the White House, that doesn't mean that Mr Clinton is wiping out all hope for a female relative in office.

During their family's charity conference for the Clinton Global Initiative that was held in September, the Democrat put the odds in his daughter's favor when CNN's Piers Morgan asked who he thought would be a better president.

'Day after tomorrow – my wife because she’s had more experience. Over the long run, Chelsea,' he said.

'(Chelsea) knows more than we do about everything. There was a time in her childhood when I thought maybe she thought she did when she didn't. Now, it’s highly embarrassing because she in fact does. So, I feel like I’m going to school every day when we have conversations.'(MailOnline)
